The SINTACT — Social Innovation Methods and Tools for Communities Affected by Transition(s) — project is the first project for scientific networks with the exchange of scientists performing scientific tasks under the Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Staff Exchange program, won by the Faculty of Business Administration in foreign languages (FABIZ) of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
Goal:
SINTACT aims to develop social innovation tools and methods designed to support disadvantaged regions in the project’s partner countries in achieving a just and inclusive transition to a green economy. SINTACT will analyze socio-economic challenges and test new solutions for implementing social innovations in support of communities affected by the energy transition.
Method:
SINTACT will involve a trans-regional analysis that combines systemic and participatory methodologies with interdisciplinary research. By analyzing the socio-economic vulnerabilities of various regions, developing social innovation strategies to address these vulnerabilities, and quantifying social value, the project will generate results useful for informing the decisions of policymakers in the participating countries.
Objectives:
- Identifying the determinants and shaping factors of unemployment and energy poverty risks associated with the green transition;
- Quantifying the social impact on communities facing these risks;
- Defining how activities and intergenerational dynamics can enhance social innovation and economic contributions to society;
- Developing human resources through specialized training programs;
- Facilitating interdisciplinary, international, and cross-sectoral knowledge transfer.
Outputs:
SINTACT will contribute to building the scientific capacity of FABIZ, as well as to its international networks and capabilities. The project creates opportunities for sustainable scientific cooperation not only with universities, full participants in the Framework Program, but also with partner universities in Japan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Morocco, which have associate status.

R&I objectives:
- to analyse skill gaps and employment conditions in the consortium countries
- to assess and propose solutions for mitigating social and economic risks
- to develop collaborative frameworks between governments and non-profit organisations
- to create green transition plans and disseminate them to the right stakeholders
WP3 – Quantifying social values in communities facing energy poverty and unemployment resulted from green transition
Role: Participant
R&I objectives:
- to analyse risks resulted from green transitions and conduct gap analysis in skills/knowledge/competence that could create barriers to employment
- to recommend appropriate social innovation solutions that could address and mitigate the identified risks in the communities
- to define measures to quantify the social values created in the communities via implementing the social innovation solutions.
WP4 – Intergenerational Ties and Dynamics
Role: Lead Beneficiary
R&I objectives:
- to explore how the intergenerational activities and dynamics can enhance social innovation along with making an economic contribution to society
- to examine varied existing social innovation models and frameworks across countries
- to develop through a theory of change new innovative business models aimed at encouraging longer active working lives and enhancing community well-being
Overall Training and Transfer of knowledge objectives:
- to facilitate access to and analysis of country-specific data
- to provide comprehensive training to seconded staff
- to foster cross-sectoral expertise development
- to build international research collaboration capacity
